City road maintenance operations in full swing

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas, joined the Road Infrastructure Management (RIM) teams in Bellville South; Belhar and Delft yesterday, 26 May 2026 to see all the essential road maintenance operations under way for the rainy winter season.
‘I joined our teams in Delft, Belhar and Bellville South yesterday to see which operations they are currently busy with, as we continue preparing for the upcoming heavy winter rains. In Delft, the focus this week is on pothole repairs while the sun is out, and in Belhar and Bellville South, they are conducting as much stormwater drain cleaning as possible to ensure that the system is clear of illegal dumping, litter and foreign objects, which should not be in our stormwater system for it to be less prone to flooding.
‘We are doing our part through maintenance and infrastructure improvements, however, we need your assistance by reporting illegal dumping; potholes or any other road related issues to the City’s call centre or your local councillor. That is critical in order for us to avoid or respond to issues sooner. I also want to remind residents that litter ends up in our stormwater infrastructure and causes blockages. Thus, please work with us, and don’t litter, and don’t dump objects in the stormwater inlets as this will prevent runoff from rain events to drain away,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The City’s Road Infrastructure Management (RIM) teams have been undertaking proactive maintenance across Cape Town since last year as part of its efforts to prepare for Winter. This is over and above the 8 321 service requests that the teams have attended to in the first three months of the year.
The City’s proactive measures ahead of the 2026 winter season includes:
Expanded maintenance: Increased cleaning of stormwater networks to clear discarded rubbish
Targeted upgrades: Focus on infrastructure in known flood-prone zones
Early warnings: Close monitoring in partnership with the South African Weather Service
Residents to report potholes and any other road issues via the City’s call centre on 0860 103 089; the City App or by logging a service request on
